Rock Painting
By Spramani Elaun
Rock painting is perfect for kids to try.
In this blog I want to share how easy it is to set-up for this activity.
Rock painting is for any age, even toddlers enjoy this painting rocks.
One of the things I’m expert at is painting with kids, if you want to learn more about painting with children check out my book “Kids Painting”
I paint thousands of rocks annually with kids all over the West Coast at art events.
Only use kids non-toxic acrylic paint bands.
Red
White
Blue
How easy is that color selection!
But of course if your kids want to use other colors that’s OK!
Gather Rocks from outside!
Kids have so much fun collecting rocks from outdoors for painting on.
Rocks can be found in almost any landscape, or at a garden store.
Use any size or shape of rocks you find.
Different shapes are much more interesting, and fun to come up with creative designs.
Beach and river rocks are great for flat surfaces.
If you don’t have rocks near you, take a trip to the garden store. Usually there’s bags of landscape rocks there to buy.
Supplies you will need:
Acrylic Paint – non-toxic acrylic or craft paint is best to use.
Paintbrushes – a small paintbrush for making details, and medium paintbrush for full surface painting (2 paintbrushes).
It’s that easy!
I found these cute July 4th designs all over the internet. If you want to know here the original design came from just click over the picture.
Keeping rock painting simple is much more enjoyable for kids!
Hope you have a blast painting rocks, and if you want to learn more about how to teach young kid show to paint, check out and buy my paperback book “Kids Painting”
