Halo (Hello in Balinese),
If you’ve been following me for a while, you might know I just came back from Bali traveling with my pop up art studio. I want to share more of my painting travel experience in Part 2 – Painting in Bali. I’ll share some painting advise in a second, but first can I talk about Balinese food… oh my gosh such yummy food!🍴
I’m not shy when it comes to trying local new foods out. We pretty much stuck with eating only Balinese food the whole trip. I eat lots of Warung style street food from family stalls and restaurants in Ubud and Kuta. Pretty much trying a new place out at least twice a day.. Yummy. Warung style food is usually Nasi campur mixed rice with some type of protein, local spices and topped with a fried egg, Mee Goreng meaning noodles instead of rice. I eat lots of Balinese chicken satay and dragon fruit, papaya and coconut daily. I even had some Bebek goreng fried duck, I’m already missing this food!
Ok, back to my painting experience.
So over the five days of the education summit in Bali I hosted art camp, some adult workshops, and open studio to at least 50 kids passing through daily, that’s a lot of painting my friend.
I have to say it was an overall successful for me because of one reason. I know the value of teaching kids key painting lessons that quickly gets them working independently. I can’t stress enough how important painting guides, key demonstrations, and having the right materials ready in your classroom, home or studio will make. In fact, one day I snuck out to do more shopping and eating 🙂 and come back to 30 kids working on their own in my studio independently enjoying themselves. So keep that in mind how important key lessons can be for you as a teacher. It’s one of the main reasons why I’m successful at teaching children.
